How to put your ads on proxified pages!

I had always blogged about the techniques used to generate revenue on the proxy sites but I had never wrote about how to put the ads on the proxified pages.

FreeProxyTemplates in detail covers how to put Adversal and Adbrite ads into the proxified pages in their recent blog post. You can use the same method to apply any type of ads. Just your your own appropriate code.

Ever wondered how other proxy owners put banners and ads on their proxified pages? In this article, I’ll show you how place either Adversal / AdBrite or both into PHProxy v0.5Beta.

Firstly open up index.php, if you’re using Dreamweaver or frontpage, go to line 1147. For people without those programs, open up notepad and press CTRL+F and search for this code <br /><hr />

This is where you want to place your AdBrite / Adversal code, make sure it’s between the comma and the above code. However we are not completely done yet, if you are intending to use AdBrite, you must take out the following var lines from your given AdBrite code or else the proxy script will not work.

Why no popups?

This blog post is proudly sponsored by:
Yourwebsite - Your slogan here.

I had an annoying friend who admired me a lot but I really hated him (for whatever reason). He popped up my face after every few minutes when I was between my other friends. One day I got irritated and ended the irritating relationship once and for all.

To some extent, like my annoying friend, the popups advertisements are MOST annoying form of advertisements. I hate them a lot as well as your users. Within seconds, I close any site with popup advertisement and I never tend to visit that site anymore. When you use popups on you website, you lose guaranteed visitors.

Your loyal visitors don’t like your site anymore thus losing a lot of viral marketing.

The best bet is to disable those annoying popups once and for all. Definitely, you lose A LOT of money but instead of popups you can use CPM advertisements on your site which will actually earn you a lot more than those popups.

How?

CPM is one of the decent ways to publish advertisement on your proxy websites. Some of them are actually relevant to your site.

Apart from relevancy, your loyal returning visitors are happy with your site. They spread the word about your proxy site; as a result, gaining more additional traffic. More traffic means more money.

As discussed previously on Monetizing proxy sites blog post, it is recommended to use Adsense on your proxy address form page (mainly homepage). On the proxied pages, you can use CPM advertisements instead of popups.

Now the question arises. Which advertisement company provides CPM advertisements for proxy sites?

Here is a list of companies which provides CPM advertisements and allows proxy sites:

Adbrite – live user pays for what you display – you set your own prices.

Advertising

121Media

Addynamix

Blue Lithium

Tremor Network

Vendare

If you are rejected from any of the above listed CPM advertising sites, please let us know through comments. This might help us keeping our site up to date about monetization for proxy sites.

In the end, I would just like to say that don’t add annoying features to your website by which you will lose returning visitors. Keep in mind; you are generating money through those visitors.

Interview from Liam of Venturefox

Recently, we conducted interview of Liam from venturefox who owns successful proxy sites. Before posting the interview, we would like to thank him for spending his time for the interview.

Without further delay, the interview:-

  • Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Hello, I’m Liam Fox, 19 from the UK and I run Venture Fox Ltd, a web development business that specialises in offering web proxy resources. Some of our premium web properties include www.proxytopsite.com and www.proxybuilder.com

  • How and when did you get into web development?

I started web development in about 1999, I was involved with “virtual pet” communities and built several of my own. My largest project was PetGamer.com, unfortunately that has now fallen into the hands of domain cybersquatter’s. I got a few lucky breaks into the web proxy market with an efficient proxy script and I acquired some high quality proxy-related domains.

  • What made you think about developing a network of proxy sites, Venturefox?

Venture Fox Ltd was established after the profit made it feasible. Our current business web address is http://www.venturefox.com, it it more a presentation of some of the best sites in our portfolio. Venture Fox Ltd operates about 60 websites in a wide range of topics but is primarily focused on proxy resources.

  • What was your initial investment for developing proxy sites?

Fortunately for me I had a small sum, maybe $700, from the sale of the previously mentioned websites. I was mainly experimenting at that stage to see whether anything could make a profit. I saw dismal returns and found nothing could provide a truly passive income. Until I found proxy sites.

  • What type of proxy script do you prefer?

I currently run a highly modified version of PHProxy across all my proxy websites. I will not go into any specifics on that topic.

  • What is the monthly cost to run your proxy sites empire?

I run three dedicated 2GB servers with a dedicated 10mb line, it is UK based and costs are quite high but its worth it for the rapid support and reliable uptime. The costs are close to $x,xxx.

  • How do you monetize your proxy sites?

My proxy sites are monetized on the homepages with Google Adsense and Adbrite on some proxied pages. Its widely experimenting that will make you real money, alot of people make money with popup advertisers like Adversal or Canep Media.

  • What is your monthly revenue with your proxy sites?

I never disclose my income outside a select few people at my discretion.

  • In your opinion what is the one mistake a proxy site owner does before and after launching their site?

I have refined my own process in making proxy sites, I could write pages on the subject but I don’t feel it would be in my best interests to give my ideas away. I will just say, build quality and be selective in your objectives. I couldn’t recommend it to newbies but you are way better off chasing a high traffic keyword position than offering no targeting. Build your inbound links around certain phrases, use keyword rich domains and provide unique content on each site.

  • Except proxy sites, what type of websites do you own?

Not many really, I wouldn’t like to showcase them because I have not really put much effort into side projects. I am working with one blogger who provides cheap content for a TV blog I own, but you can visit the Venture Fox website to see more.

  • With the end of the interview, what advice would you like to give to proxy site owners?

I would just say, research and experiment until you find the right formula for you. I found success in offering unique content sites that were fast and reliable. I tweaked my servers, went on extensive link building campaigns, acquired worthy proxy properties and I can say the rewards are worth it.

Yourwebsite - Your slogan here.

If you had read my previous post where I had explained why there should be a contact form on a proxy site.

You should have a legal disclaimer written on your site to prevent any type of difficulty running your proxy site.

A simple example of a legal disclaimer for a proxy site would be:

The webmaster of [Yoursite] doesn’t take any responsibility for any direct, indirect damages or loss of data and profits of any site. The website shown after the user visits a website through [Yoursite] proxy is not in any way owned or associated with [Yoursite] proxy.

With [Yoursite] proxy, all the data of the site visitors is kept private and will not be released to anyone unless written permission is provided by [Yoursite] proxy. We judge privacy a significant cause when running [Yoursite] proxy.

We have to right to block/unblock any IP or IP ranges.

The usage of this site constitutes the acceptance of the disclaimer.

The site disclaimer is written by me. Please fix any spelling or grammatical mistake.
